Ugh, this book really doesn't hold up. I really hope they don't recommend this book to children anymore. The first two were fine, but the characterization of the 'savages' and colonization is pretty awful. I don't know if I'll be able to finish the series.
Laura questions her parents, but is told to basically shut up and keep quiet.
There's a lot of remarks of "the only good Indian is a dead Indian", etc.

OMG we got some queers!
"6 miles beyond them, 2 bachelors were living in 1 house. They had taken 2 farms and built the house on the line between them. 1 man's bunk was against 1 wall of the house and the other man's bunk was against the other wall. So each man slept on his own farm although the house was only 8 feet wide. They cooked and ate together in the middle of the house."

No, honey, Indian territory isn't far. You're *ON* Indian territory as long as you've been in America.
