Awful and boring writing, a lousy plot, and boring characters. I grew up in a similar environment, and I don’t find this interesting or insightful—it’s just a story about poor people that shows not a shred of sympathy for any of the characters—just boring poor people doing boring poor things. I don’t know—I’ve heard a lot of good things about Céline, but this book is just straight-up crap.
