why is this not as good as I remember(I mean I read it in 5th grade but still)

Protagonist: Susan becomes really sad and depressed and stays in bed all day because she was really sad about Becky's passing. In the text it says "Yesterday was about Becky, I will do it better today" that's what Ada said. So then Ada took care of the household while Susan was recovering.

PROTAGONIST: The protagonist of the book is Ada, a 9-10 year old girl living with a foster mother during the war. I know she is the protagonist because the whole story is from her point of view. An example from the book is " Jamie was practicing his letters at the table in the evening after the dishes were washed. I sat down at my place and watched him." This quote shows that its coming from Ada's point of view.

So, so good! Multiple kids asked if I’d read this one and was going to add it to my library this week, and I was able to say, “Already on it, Geographers 😎”
