this book is one of the most immersive and magical experiences I’ve ever had reading a book. It’s outside the box. It’s lovely. It’s wonderful. It’s fun and to learn that he modeled real people for the characters and that the main character Diego was modeled after his son, Dylan… omg. I am so excited to read the sequel Learning he was a Pixar Director makes so much sense too. ahhh i’m gonna cry.

Will be reading the sequel as soon as I can get my hands on it because need more of that art and the characters are very fun to follow around. Also, we learned the tragic backstory of Paige’s brother, as well as Lucy’s desire to become a fighter pilot in spite of her family’s traditionalist values as a steam timer love love, love the concept of this book and the execution of putting art and writing together<3!

they found both Diego and Lucy‘s dad‘s relatively unharmed, but they’re still trying to prevent a huge explosion that could wipe out any time collision child in a radius of 15 miles from the big ass reactor, so we’re struggling to put things together, but it’s coming along. I’m almost done which is kind of sad because the art is incredible and amazing and i’m obsessed, but I know there’s a second one.

they are currently fighting the battle, the end battle, the battle of all battles that will determine the future of society as they know it once again. The captain let Magnus escape because he learned that he is holding his wife and child captive somewhere which means Magnus lives to fight another day, while Balthasar is KO’ed rn. Paige, Diego, Lucy and Petey are unharmed so far, Gaston… Not so much..

diego and lucy:,,,,,) they were a bit expected from the beginning but the art fully convinced me i love them. also the maker’s sight having a price makes so much sense, but nothing could have prepared me to see diego’s whole ass bloody tooth in the sand. talk about price to pay. but the baby turtle apology was worth it.

I like that there are a lot of different artists involved in the making of the book. it’s such a group effort and i’d love to be a part of something like this at some point in my career. love the camaraderie that forms between the kids as well.

the story is moving along nicely, there are fewer drawings and much more plot which is a good balance from the start of the book (still very much obsessed with the artist/author’s art style). it’s kind of weird that they’re all 13-14y/o’s tho, i feel like they behave more like 16 y/o’s. i will say, i don’t like the way the girls are always mad about something and the boys are just kinda chilling.

i love the divisions between the story. it’s also throwing me tho that they treat the kids (13 year olds btw) like they’re 45 year olds with a whole resume of gang experience. dunno, it’s funny.

this is proving to be much more high stakes than I initially thought it would be, to be honest. The group of four is very found family like, even though they don’t know it yet. the goldfish is one of the most creative inventions that I’ve ever seen in world building in general. everyone’s so diverse, which is the way I would imagine a time fusion making the world.

absolutely obsessed with the artwork hoooooly peak. the story progresses very well and the design is truly amazing. the writing complements the pictures perfectly.

The art in this book is unlike anything I’ve ever seen before. Honest. The story, so far, has been very interesting and futuristic, which is definitely the kind of vibe I like I also like that the main family is Latino and that the main character is named after famous painter, Diego Rivera, which is a fantastic Easter egg.
