Tragedy: I think my book is a tragedy because at the start of the book they make it a big plot point that the main character's dad died. On page 20 it says " this up coming summer will be the first one without my dad." I think because his dad died it makes the story even more sad because he start to do stuff because he has no dad anymore.

SUMMARY: While Charlie thought he would dread a summer with his grandparents, he embraced it. There, he spent most of his time with his cousin, Roxy. She taught him how to play basketball and encouraged him to follow the path of a basketball player. Later, he found love for the game and enjoyed the time spent with his grandparents as he stated, "I really like it here, and I enjoy playing basketball now." (p 406)

SUMMARY: My book is about a young teenage boy and his friends and their everyday life. Some events take place in the book because the main character's dad died Like the main character steals and skips class because he feels sad that his dad died. On pg.75 it his friend says "...are u gonna skip again." Again he does these things like skip and steal because he feels like something is missing and that is his dad.

VISUALIZE: Kwame Alexander paints the scene of Charlie and Roxie walking to and arriving at the park in a visual way for the reader to visualize. On page 350, the author says, "the smell of hot sauce and fried fish is faint in the air, and we've played three games of one-on-ones... we're both swimming in a pool of perspiration". In this scene, the author paints this scene in a very visual way.

MAKING CONNECTIONS: I made a connection between Charlie and myself. We are both middle school athletes who also have cousins who are exceptional athletes. Charlie's cousin, Roxy is an incredibly talented basketball player, my cousin is an extremely talented soccer player who plays for LAFC u17. Charlie says, "Roxy is the best middle school player in the club... no one can beat her".
