Spooky as new neighbors in a sleepy coastal town. Let’s go!

The book has only three stories, but after finishing the first, that may be enough. McCammon is always great at setting mood and scene and I found it very easy to get drawn into the story.

“Beauty”: Perhaps the saddest story I’ve read by McCammon. It was sweet and spooky and so damn sad. 5/5

“Doom City”: I feel like this is to THE BORDER what Stephen King’s “Night Surf” is to THE STAND. Meaning the stories take place in the same —or similar, at least — universes as their respective novel counterparts. This one is creepy! All the stars!

“The Red House”: Oh, I loved this! It reminded me of BOY’S LIFE. A tale of individuality and strange neighbors, this tale set in a small town in the ‘70s gave me all the satisfactions I expect from McCammon. 5/5
