GD, 1.29.63: reading A Rebours & The Childermass as retellings of Flaubert's Temptation of St Anthony: "Somewhere this theme got started in modern literature: Milton's Regained? Don Quijote? ... Once you grasp the theme--the world as extraneous distraction before which the mind must adjust its balance or be a ping-pong ball--the whole world of surrealism, especially in painting, falls into place."

It's absolutely this book's fault (and clearly not my own, whatsoever...) that I now have a huge pile of modern poetry sitting on my bedside table. I already have enough to read but GD & HK keep adding more to the list.

Re-doing Pound, from not being into it, to being into it. Zukofsky, Olson (this time being really into it)... whatever else I pick up to follow.
