I am finding that, although correct for the period, the habit of referring to characters by their surname initial, such as Miss G- and Lord V-, is confusing and annoying because I cannot remember how those people relate to each other or to the narrator. There is a character list at the beginning, but it's not very user-friendly in an e-book format.
