‘Summer in Algiers’ is a beautiful explanation of where Camus’ ideas come from. Written in 1936, some 19 years before ‘The Myth of Sisyphus’, Camus explains how the Algerian people have no legacy or mythology to think about, so all they have are sweet summers and the joys they bring. It’s a great letter which shows Camus’ influences and, ironically, heritage.
