"Today's actors may be better, but they're not Bogart and Bergman." (Julius Epstein). Amen to that brother. This was a banger.

It would be impossible to write a better book about the making of this movie.

The Epsteins, asked to fill out a "loyalty oath" to the USA after the War were asked, "Have you ever been a member of a subversive organization?" They filled it in as, "Yes, Warner Brothers." LOL. That's how you punk fascists. This is a great book.

Most of Burnett's original play and characters are in the film, despite Koch taking credit for it. A nice myth-bust here. The Epsteins spiced up the dialogue to all those classic lines we love. Greatest script of all time, despite the many hands, but then again we have Mankiewicz's All About Eve and Towne's Chinatown as also the greatest scripts ever, but who's counting?
