He tells her not to think and to let go and one day with the birds and the sunrise something just comes over her and she just sees her life differently all of a sudden? (Sureee) anyhow in the care home Teddy lays dying but he’s fighting his last fight in his bomber, it’s going down and he’s trying to fight it off.

I just dislike this book. Viola has a dream about Sunny and is overwhelmed with love so she detours and goes to see him, while she’s over there she gets a call from the nursing home that Teddy is dying, she thinks finally she’s been waiting for him to die to start her life?? Bertie goes over to sit with him. Sunny teaches yoga in Bali, has an Aussie girlfriend who’s 6 months pregnant, he’s found peace

Back to Teddy during the war and the final run before he was shot down over Germany to become a POW.

Everything’s always someone else’s fault. She wishes her children were babies again & had time for her. She hasn’t seen Sunny in 10 years he’s out in Bali being a Buddhist. Bertie calls her here and there but calls Teddy all the time and also declined to see her for dinner when she was in London. She leaves the home, letting an elderly woman out while she’s at it because she can’t be bothered to move her

Teddy is in a home and dying, he’s pretty out of it. Viola visits him once a week because she doesn’t want anyone to be able to say she doesn’t care. She’s thinking over her life and back on a therapy session where she complains after her mom died her dad got her hair cut to a bob because he couldn’t do her plaits, the therapist asked why she couldn’t manage her own hair 🤗

Then one evening as she’s playing piano (the thinks she’s playing well but she’s actually just mashing the keys) Teddy tries to put her to bed and she starts trashing around like an animal and he knows this isn’t what/who she wanted to be. He puts extra morphine in her drink but her trashing knocks it across the room. He smothers her with a pillow. Viola sees but quietly goes back to her room.

Nancy has a brain tumour, inoperable. She didn’t want to tell Teddy until she knew for sure, she told her sisters though.
She told Teddy once it was all confirmed and started making preparations for her life to be over, to make it easier for everyone when she was gone. She asks Teddy to help her at the end, she didn’t want to become a zombie as the tumour destroyed her brain. Teddy was against it.

Passion I gusss? He still has the dog Ursula saved in the blitz, lucky. He’s a base mascot.

More on teddys war time. He signs up to a second tour rather than training new troops which he did for a bit. His old squadron member Keith joined him and he died. He meets up with Nancy while he’s on R&R and they agree to get married when it’s all over. He has an affair with a girl called Julia (he loves Nancy but he’s not in love with her as he’s loved her since she was a kid it’s more a steady love than

I have 126 pages left and I kinda can’t wait to be done, I love Teddy he’s such a nice guy, I hate viola, I feel for Sunny, Bertie is a neutral character she’s not an asshole like her mom but she’s not been through the ringer like Sunny.

He has bruises where the staff hit him. Teddy takes him home.
Years later the staff get prosecuted for stealing from Antonia and trying to get her to change her will to their name as she’s old and losing it, her will when she died was to Dominic which by proxy was Bertie and Sunny, it only amounted to a few 1000 each but Sunny gave his to an orphanage in India. Guess he wanted no part of that anymore!

Antonia doesn’t tell Teddy/bertie for 3 weeks. As they worry as sunny misses their calls. Antonia blames sunny and he starts a local prep school but he’s so messed up from everything and the boys bully him terribly he is removed after 3 days. Teddy speaks to the social services about getting rights to the children and drives up to get Sunny, he thinks Antonia will fight him but she gives him back happily.

Dom sits down and smokes and sunny, tired from walking through the woods all day in the hot sun falls asleep against his father, he’s woken up to the train lights flashing, horn blearing. He tries to get out of the way and dom keeps pulling him back, he finally breaks away as the train hits dom- killing him. The incident is reported in the papers as dom pushing sunny off the tracks, he’s a hero.

Teddy calls weekly to check in, but Antonia monitors the calls so sunny just acts like he’s happy, looked after and fed - which he isn’t.
One day dom decides they should go on an adventure, he’s clearly on something and sunny realises he’s not with a responsible adult. It’s hot and they have no food or water, dom making them drink from a green pond because a frog told him so. They come to a level crossing

His grandmother and father come down to pick him up from teddys house and dom is clearly on something, teddy feels awful he let him go but he has no rights to keep him. at Jordan manor sunny is treated terribly by his grandmother, the staff and dom just kind of does his own thing. Voila and the grandmother Antonia decide sunny should go to doms old boarding school but he needs to be 8 and he’s 7.

Jesus. Voila leaves sunny and Bertie with Teddy while she goes to protest for peace (how about looking after your kids?) actually best she’s gone because for 7 months Teddy gets in to good
Routine with them giving them the love and support they need. Then viola decides sunny should go stay with doms parents, dom has moved back in with them and they want to know sunny as he’s an heir (not that they have much)

Covers a lot of teddys flying during the war. How his first bomber nearly crashed and he had to coax it back to England and crash land, and the one that replaced that was crashed at sea 4 miles off the English coast, they lost one guy, vic at sea before the navy picked them up and another guy died 2 days later. Teddy went to vic’s house and his pregnant fiancée said he told her to name the baby Edward after Teddy

Meanwhile in the present - viola is now making Teddy move to a care home. She’s moved on from being a gypsy anti establishment kind of figure from when her children were young to being an author (like great aunt Izzy) she’s trying to get her third book made in to a movie.

Because although they dreamed on an idyllic childhood in the country side for her, viola is not a country child. She is very spoilt and Whiney. Nancy starts visiting her sisters but while away helping her sister gertie move house, gertie calls Teddy giving away Nancy is not there. He becomes suspicious. He catches her on phone calls and she always tries to be the first getting the mail. (I think she’s sick)
