A cis gay man and a cis straight woman decided to write about young lesbians and transphobia toward trans women. I don’t think it’s cool for 2 people not from that demographic to write like they understand what it’s like to be a lesbian or a trans woman, and it reads like they don’t.
The mid-chapter perspective shifts between characters feel choppy and make it hard to settle into their perspectives, too.

(tw: transphobia)
UGGH, the characters in this book are so stupid! Especially Chris, holy hell she's actually SUCH a miserable, horrible human being? I mean, it's definitely challenged on the page and everything but I still hate that it's happening, and I personally want to punch Chris in her transphobic face for even suggesting the idea that she's a feminist.

so far (page 76) it's very heavy-handed. Like it's written carefully, by committee, to inform the youthful reader. The characters feel like constructs rather than people, and they never have anything noteworthy to say. Sort of the opposite of a John Green book.
