Sort of a John Dickson Carr Mystery set in Paris (Bencolin!). It does seem like I should not be surprised if some actual Fantasy elements exist; I’m fine if it it really is a Crime/Fantasy hybrid, though that may be a cheat when it comes to the integrity of the “impossible crimes”.

At the Mystery bookstore near where I work (too near), I got lured into taking a chance on this weird-looking novel. It made me commit to it instead of stuff by Joan Fleming, H. R. F. Keating, and Simon Shaw - all which would have satisfied various reading-guide/list-reading requirements. So far, I am happy with, and it reminds me of Rohmer’s Dream Detective stories a little. The real cover is more muted purple.

I love the focus on surrealism and the "what is reality??" and stuff, but I should really at this point be on the edge of my seat (what with it being a detective novel and the book slowly coming to a close) but I'm not. It's a fun read, though.
