Status Updates From The World in 1800

I'm going to DNF this now as it's too annoying. It is aimed at a wide readership yet assumes knowledge which makes it of a nudge-nudge-wink kind of book addressed to fellow.. what? Upper class men whom learned this stuff at college? Either write a boom with academic rigour or explain stuff! Also the man-man-man school of history leaves me yawning.
