In chapter two, the author demonstrates that Alex Comfort was a staunch opponent of war, even as the war against Hitler was dragging on and on, whereas George Orwell felt that pacifism was a luxury that must be sacrificed for the sake of stopping the Nazis. Comfort was, of course, even more antifascist than Orwell as he opposed the fascism that was growing in the name of fighting Nazi Germany.

Having read 1984, Animal Farm, and Ode to Catalonia, I have long had a deep respect for George Orwell. Certainly, I have read things _about_ the man, over the years, that have left my personal judgment of him a bit muddled, so when I read the preface to this book, I was eager to learn more about him.
