I went digging through my short stories shelf looking for something unexpected and found this in 'The Pocket Book of Famous French Short Stories,' which was published in 1947. I will have to handle this book carefully to keep from destroying it while reading. Fairly fragile. I've never heard of this story or its author. No idea what to expect.
