Am going all over the place with this one--looking up recipes and ideas at random. So progress can't be measured properly on this one.

Yes, I read cookbooks cover to cover. Some are more readable than others. This is is quite readable and has lovely notes on technique and flavors as well as nice pictures.

I also watch cooking shows. I have at least as good an idea of what something is supposed to taste like from the ingredient list as from the show's commentary--as long as I have a rough idea of what the ingredients are.
