"Adepta Sororitas," Vex said, apparently taking the startled exclamation as a genuine request for information. "Each of the towers has a permanent honour guard from the chamber militant of the ordo it houses. The Sororitas guards the Ordo Hereticus, the Deathwatch the Ordo Xenos, and the Grey Knights ward the Ordo Malleus. In more ways than one, if the rumours are to be believed."

"Rufio." Quillem gestured to the assassin as he stepped from the ladder. "Scout down that way, see where it goes." He had no need to explain any further; the feral worlder's tracking skills would already have told him everything he'd just deduced with a single glance. Rufio nodded, and loped off into the darkness, his jungle-honed senses evidently not needing anything so crude as a luminator to assist them.

"These two killed each other," he said. "Probably over money, or the favours of a joygirl. I'm sure your investigation will find a plausible reason."
"I'd recommend disposing of the corpses as rapidly as possible," Vex added. "Even a dead psyker can sometimes be an attractive host to a warp entity."
"They'll be over the side before you leave the Gallery," the sergeant said, her tone sober.

"I thought you were only supposed to kill sinners," he panted, catching up with Horst and Keira.
The girl looked at him as though he was stupid. "Everyone's guilty of something," she said.
"Oh." Drake was completely taken aback. "I guess that simplifies things, then."
"Generally." If she recognised the sarcasm in his tone, she was refusing to rise to it.

The high ceiling overhead was vaulted, throwing back the din of the seething activity around them, and chased with devotional murals, obscured almost to opacity by generations of accumulated grime. Narrowing her eyes a little, Keira could just about make out the figure of the Emperor Himself, apparently shrivelling things with too many eyes, tentacles, and teeth to ashes with a single gesture.
