Kind of fucked up that I had to read half of this collection to get to a great story but holy shit was my patience rewarded. “White Feather” is like a tale Thomas Wake would have told in the Lighthouse. Lovecraftian reveals that actually worked without the story losing itself in homage. Such a vividly rendered sailor’s yarn. “This was something that should not be, death like this, from things like this”
