The book, autobiographic, illustrates not just family relations in fifties, sixties and seventies of 20th century, but also a credible description of Dutch social atmosphere during the years of Cold War, with historical details of communist groups. Very readable.

Ik ben gestopt. Kwam niet door al die partij-shit heen. Wel een goeie les geleerd: ga op café altijd met je gezicht naar de deur zitten, want je weet nooit wie jou kan vernaaien achter je rug om. (Maar dat deed ik altijd al, om andere redenen… )
