◾In April 1204, she died, perhaps at Poitiers or, as most historians now think, at Fontevraud Abbey, near Chinon, where she had frequently resided during her life. ◾She was buried at Fontevraud alongside her second husband Henry and—perhaps more importantly to Eleanor—her son Richard the Lionheart.

◾Upon Henry’s death, Richard became the king of England. His first move was to fulfill Merlin’s prophecy by ordering the release of his mother, the “eagle.” Eleanor was already free by the time Richard’s representative arrived, and Richard gave her power over England.
◾Eleanor, having outlived both her royal husbands, had risen to become queen once again.
