This book is turning out to be something other than what I expected, and unfortunately I'm finding myself not too interested in what it is. I am interested in "loss and longing among midcentury American men" but it seems like the current and following chapters are about the loss and longing of one man: author John Horne Burns, with another chapter following those devoted entirely to Gore Vidal. Disappointing.
