At times, the outside perception that my life is negative and sad became so powerful that I internalized it and developed harmful beliefs that I was a burden to even the people who love me most.

This is why society sucks tbh.

When you love someone with your whole heart, there’s nothing you won’t do to keep them safe and comfortable. It’s not a sacrifice and it’s not a burden; it’s a natural instinct.

Another great insight from Shane. I agree with this and I think it can apply to other relationships besides romantic relationships.

Reading about Hannah's trip on edibles was freaking hilarious and it made me smile.

I liked learning more about Spinraza since I only knew about it from watching a couple of Shane and Hannah's YouTube videos.

I can relate to the fear of catching a cold during the winter. Shane deals with the same concern/fear. His lungs are probably a lot weaker than mine, though.

I liked learning about the adaptations that help Shane in his daily life. I'm still enjoying the humor in his writing. ☺️

If fair and equal treatment under the ADA means sitting in a baby’s car seat with a belt strapped around my waist and three trained caregivers maneuvering and situating me, maybe it’s time to reevaluate what fair and equal means.

Awww!! The end of that chapter was too sweet. ❤️ It's wonderful that Shane got to drop the humor that he used as a facade shortly after he met Hannah. She made it clear that he could relax around her and she didn't mind helping him.

I remember that Shane also mentioned this in Interabled. He also went into more depth in this chapter about random strangers giving him gifts and why that's ableist and problematic. He gave good explanations about this behavior in both books.

I liked learning about the history of Laughing at My Nightmare. And I appreciate that Shane's cousin, Sarah, is a go-getter. She believed in the potential of LaMN and that's awesome. 🙂

This was my first taste of how the world sees disability—how people assume I must live a wholly depressing, hopelessly sad existence just because I can’t walk.

This is ableism at its finest. 🙁😠 Especially since Shane doesn't feel like he leads a sad life because of his disability.

Reading about Shane and Andrew's trip to Buffalo, New York in sub-zero degree weather was comical. They should've brought warmer coats!!
