Status Updates From On the Court with...Kevin D...

INCITING INCIDENT: Kevin debated whether he should stay in college for one more year or declare for the NBA draft, a decision that will impact his life. "Suddenly, Kevin faced a big decision about his future: would he leave for the NBA?... Kevin had a tough choice: stay at Texas with his friends and continue his education...or the NBA" (p28-29). This was the biggest decision for Kevin, one that would shape his life.

ARCHETYPES: Kevin Durant goes through a quest during his path to the NBA. The author states that "Kevin's father abandoned him and his siblings while he was just 2 years old"(pg 23). He also says that "Kevin wanted to enjoy his childhood, but knew how much work it takes to make it to the NBA" (pg 25). Kevin faced many challenges and obstacles, but he overcame them and went on to be one of the best players today.

Genre: This book is both non fiction and biography. I think this because a lot of books that I am going to read or have read are very similar to this book and are non fiction. The words in this book that show me that it is a mix of biography and non fiction are birth, education, Career, and achievements.

Right now I'm on the part where he is drafted to OKC. I think that this part of the book is a critical time in his career and shows how hard work pays off.

MAKING CONNECTIONS: Kevin Durant started off the new year by hitting a major career milestone. The milestone he reached was 20,000 career points in the NBA. someone else who has hit that milestone is Damian Lillard, Lebron James, and Stephen Curry also Kobe Bryant and Michael Jordan.

SETTING: During the 2016 off season, Kevin became the most sought-after free agent since LeBron James. A new television deal caused the salary cap to rise dramatically from 70 million to 94 million. The setting of the story right now is Kevin in the locker room thinking about the thunder's franchise player and if he wants to be the franchise player for the thunder.

SUPPORTING CHARACTERS: Kevin Durant finished the 2013-2014 season averaging thirty-two points per game. Averaging thirty-two points per game is really good in basketball. The supporting character in the story is his mom Wanda Durant because she was the parent who was in his life the most and very much supportive of Kevin's goal of making it to the NBA. If it wasn't for his mom he wouldn't be here today in the NBA.

THE CLIMAX: In the book right now James Harden just got traded to the rockets with Kevin Durant and I think that's the climax because this is such a huge thing that Kevin and Harden are going to play on the same team and dominate. The first game they really took the other team down they won 97-82. Then a little later Russell Westbrook got traded to the rockets with Kevin and Harden!

PROTAGONIST: The protagonist of the story is Kevin Durant. He is a professional basketball player in the NBA. The book said that Kevin wanted to go to the NBA but didn't have enough Skill for it but then when he was growing up he hit his growth spurt and had the best advantage of all time because of his height.

CHARACTERIZATION:The way Kevin feels right now is like very focused because he is winning and losing. the way he is losing is he lost a game 74 to 83. Then the way he is winning is he won a different game 121 to 116. Then he is also very focused on his points per game because he is very close to LeBron James. His is 29.6 Then Kevins is 29.7 and he wants to be higher than that.

GENRE: The Genre of my book is non-fiction and an biography. the reason why it is a biography is because this book is really focused on Kevin Durant's basketball life and how he accomplished his goal of being a NBA super star. Another reason is because this book is also mainly about the little people who helped him accomplished his goal.

The setting of the book that I am currently reading is in a nearby gym called the activity center. kevin Durant goes to this gym because he wants to work hard to fulfill his dream of being in the NBA.

Genre: The genre of this book is sports fiction, it is also an autobiography. I can tell that it is an autobiography because the book tells me in detail what it was like being a young Kevin Durant and it shows what he has been through and tells the reader the ups and down that Kevin Durant has had a kid and as a teen. I also know it is sports fiction because the book it based on how Kevin would always play.

Inciting incident : Kevin Durant could not adapt to one basketball team when he was younger because he would always have to move from team to team. His parents eventually divorced when Durant was age 13 leaving Kevin to go a downward spiral in his life.

The Quest: Kevin at the start of his career has a quest to win his first the NBA Championship. It doesn't come easy though because his team either loses in the finals or in the playoffs. But his dream would come true though. In 2017, the Golden State Warriors beat the Cleveland Cavilers in the NBA Finals in 5 games 4-1 which secured Kevin'd dream of winning a championship.

There is one character that plays a big part in the book and his name is Russel Westbrook. Russel in his first season helped the thunder reach their first NBA Finals in history but they ended up losing. His impact was needed and he would impact the thunder in later years after Durant Leaves.

There are some feelings in the book but one that spcificlly stands out to me when Kevin Durant missed a game winner in the playoffs to move them to the next round. He was very hard on himself and sad because he missed a shot that could've won them a Championship. But he would have something like that oppurtunity again which he made the shot which made them go to the NBA Finals. He was very happy.
