Status Updates From The Secret Journals of Adol...

Adolf stages a putsch & is sent to prison. After getting out, buys newspaper for propaganda. Starts building his “army” (the Brown shirts aka the SA). Stages the Beer Hall Putsch & goes back to prison where he writes his book, Mein Kampf (My Struggle). Meets Joseph Goebbels. Goes to trial for treason-is given 5 years prison. Thinks of the past & of past warnings.

1919: Adolf goes to Reichswehr camp, gives speech on the “Jewish question”, is recruited to the German Worker’s Party. He learns more about the GWP’s ideologies & how they apply to his own. “Religion does not exist...the State, is the only true God that exists.” Religiously confused. Goes to therapy, talks a lot about parents & his delusions. GWP name changed to Nazi Party (Nationalist Socialist).

War front: Flanders & Ypres. Arras and La Bassee. Somme. Adolf is a dispatch runner. Injuried & shipped to Germany. Visits Berlin; reminds him of Vienna’s decadence. Returns to the front, hospitalized. War is over, Germany “disgraced”, blames Jews. Thinks he’s the “chosen one”. Asks for God’s forgiveness. Hears the doctor talking abt him & joke played on him. At first sad & then determined. Politics.

Goes to Munich, wants to study painting but is rejected; doesn’t mind because it’s by a German not a Jew. Sells postcards. Is arrested for avoiding Austrian military service. Goes to Salzburg but has a eczema, so is unfit for service (catching). Two weeks later: War. Adolf volunteers for Germany.

Adolf rethinks the rectors advice of him becoming an architect but decides on self-study, & unable to see his failure while others succeed, decides to leave the flat. Odd jobs and poverty. Is re-introduced to the swastika and pan-Germanism. His hate for Christianity deepens.

Adolf leaves Linz, but not before begging August’s parents to let August come with him to Vienna to study music. August follows & is accepted into conservatory. Adolf is jealous. After semester ends, Adolf goes to visit his sister, only to argue.

Mother dies; Dr. Bloch & August comfort him. Adolf suffers a deep depression. Wanting answers, he looks through his mother’s things and finds her Bible. The more he reads, the more questions he has, and turns away from God. His hate for the Jews grows, as does his mission to “cleanse” the Motherland.

Adolf goes home & finds mother sick & dying. He lies to her about art school. August and Adolf go to the Opera, in the middle of the operetta, Adolf has a delusion that he is the savior of the Motherland.

Adolf gets ready to take his exams at the Vienna art school. He fails & blames the rector, who is Jewish. He goes back to his room & gets a letter from Dr. Bloch to return home ASAP- Adolf’s mom is sick.

Adolf has nightmare & settles in to his plan before his mother got sick. He writes his godparents & tells them he is visiting them (Vienna). He writes Stefanie & asks August to give her the letter. Adolf goes to Vienna but his godparents don’t pick up from the station. He checks into a motel, more determined than ever to be a great painter. Next day, gets a room & wanders Vienna. Intrigued by anti-Jew newspapers.

Adolf, a bit mad with sexual repression, asks August to help him kill himself & Stefanie. Adolf thinks of ways to do it & settles for the Linz Flower Festival. They wait for her. Her carriage passes by, she smiles at him & he goes all stupid & forgets what his intent. He thinks she loves him & is happy.

Adolf is determined to be great painter & turns down postal job (hates public servants). Adolf gets letter from Dr. Bloch, family doctor, to come ASAP with sister Angela. Adolf & Angela go to the Drs, who tells them their mother has breast cancer & surgery is not remedy. Christmas: visit aunt & uncle, who say Adolf should get a job. Argument ensues. Mom has surgery & get well. Adolf goes to Vienna & sees Stefanie.

They relocate to Linz. Adolf waits for August at church & sees Stefanie (muse). He’s enchanted w/ her, thinking her near mythical. August tells him to “wake up” & talk to her. Adolf has self-doubt & delusion, “I look at my Stefanie. She slowly turns, fixing me with her bright blue stare. This time she does not even smile, certainly for fear she might betray her feelings for me. Sweet Lord, how very clever.”

Adolf’s love of art grows & his father becomes emotionally cruel, as physical cruelty has no more effect on Adolf. His father dies, Adolf is relieved. Adolf decides he will be a great painter. At the opera, Adolf meets August & they become fast friends talking of the arts.

Adolf’s mom gives birth to little brother, Edmund, who dies. Adolf hates his abusive father. His father moves them to Austria. Not wanting to go home, Adolf spends his time in Linz, admiring the architecture & art. Rushing home he tries his hand at art, his father mocks his efforts. Discouraged, Adolf vows to be a great orator.

Adolf, 1939, 10th attempted assassination. He thinks of his childhood and mother.
