The hero characters are really cold discussing the death of fellow student Alton (sort of like a more evil Draco Malloy) that the deserved to die. Heroes should have at least some level of remorse and value of life.

It really bugs me that the “good heroes” in this book seem to feel no remorse after killing the bad students. Bethany when she killed Alton (I know he cursed her but still) and Aurie & Pi when they got Sunil killed (it’s not like they though he might have stood a chance at surviving getting his life force drained).

Pi is really rather disrespectful to others. Pi and Audie just killed Sunil. He was kind of like one of Draco Malfoy’s cronies. They tossed him the horn and magically exchanged his life to save Sam who had given up his life willingly. While I didn’t want to say goodbye to Sam, it seems cold-hearted and callus to just kill someone they didn’t like. Makes them really rather repugnant.

Pi & Aurie’s friends are a blur of names. The villains Sunil & Alton are very one-dimensional and moustache-twirling. Ivan too felt like a cliched Russian mob boss off the set of The Arrow. And the plot didn’t seem like it knew what to focus on until mid-point.

I got it! The collecting of the colored Invictus Orbs is an homage to the collecting of the Infinity Stones in Infinity Wars

Feeling really long

Pi is still really antagonistic. It says something about the world where the students threaten to kill each other if they get in their way and even the heroines talk about killing off their rivals or hope their rivals get killed in the process. That there's no reprisal in this world that is supposedly in modern time. It feels weird that there is an absence of police.
