Mercy Hamlin is her bunk mate and she is short like Beth! But not an OPW. Mercy knows about the Alien encounter, as does everyone else on the planetoid. Beth names her Wasp, Tala-Goddess of the stars.

Beth didn't like being in the confined space of the planetoid. Her people came from the open and lush environment of the Philippines. New Cebu didn't have the foliage, but it did have wide open spaces. Beth was so much smaller than all the other pilots, that they had to reprint her cockpit seat, to fit. She doesn't do well with the command master chief, part of the squadron's Big 3, a senior enlisted sailor.

Beth is approached secretly by a GT Commandeer from the Navy of Humankind, From Refuge (?). She is offered a place in the Navy, going to Fleet Ops on Nexus Prime for training to fly a Wasp FX 6 Kilos.

They were concerned about the Gate and her AI that she had to destroy. They don't believe her about the Alien. Mzee Teneriffe is a pilot's advocate. They have Coke, the favorite drink. Zaibatsu control Space, where even the Navy of Humankind must obey.

The best planets have to be in the Goldilocks' zone. 132 planets had been found so far. A century colony ship hadn't been found for a couple of centuries. Had Beth saved Earth people from an invasion or missed out on an opportunity to meet an advanced peaceful alien nation? Why are the powers treating her like a criminal?

After 16 missions, in Lily, 4'6" tall Beth needs a real find - ores and a place humans can live. That would give her a bonus and possibly a big enough payoff that she wouldn't have to fly any more. She thinks she found her goldmine, but she encounters something, that the ship's AI can't identify. She flees for her life, when "it" comes after her! She destroys the gate and now she has to answer to the higher ups!

Pilot Floribeth Salinas O'Shea Dalisay, Hamdani Exploration Corps, flies a small Hummingbird for the locating of mining and habitable planets. Humans have expanded throughout their known world, and now are going to the edges of the galaxy through gates. No other species has been discovered. There is still the rich and the very poor. Beth is tiny like most of the pilots. She works for the benefit of her family.
