I wanted to learn about the history of this amazing city but there is no rhythm, theme or flow at all in this book. For all of the drawn out details the book glosses over the years surrounding the civil war. I’m looking forward to the remainder of the book. It sounds like the author had a bit more passion about jazz than he did the first 200 years of history. I hope it shows.

I wanted to love this book, the history of New Orleans sounds fascinating, but unfortunately it wasn't holding my attention and I abandoned it at page 100. There is a lot of information packed into this book but the chronology is so confusing that I was continually going back to try and orient myself. I also found the writing a bit bland. Maybe there is another New Orleans history out there better suited to me.
