I fell asleep during a scene where someone was fucking melons. Waking up was very confusing; I had to reread the page about five times. But yes: he was, in fact, fucking melons in a field at night.

This book is insanely racist and it isn’t even that the story or characters in themselves are racist which is worse because you can’t read it as a negative depiction of racist people or a sort of cautionary tale, the writing is just straight racist. Every non white character is either just called a slur or by their skin color. To an extreme. Idk if I can in good faith finish this one

I like it but I definitely liked the border trilogy more + his south western novels … but still good
