At first, I thought this would be a light read with gruesome but funny moments. Then, all of a sudden , mutilated children, corpses everywhere, and so much gore... I am not into such dark stories, but I passed the 10% mark, unlike the other 5 books I tried last week.
My other main issue is the protagonist - a bit difficult to understand his motivations and feelings.

I started this...I don't recall if I finished it.

I think Freddie is the titular Dark Paladin of the second book.
