Wait wait wait. This is Regency England, right? So far, a nurse called the main character “Sweetie” like some Southern mama, she has ridden on a ferry (did those exist back then?), there was a “mail man” who delivered mail to the front door of a Baron’s country home, there was a decorative fountain outside someone’s home, AND there was a door bell by someone’s front door. This book is confusing me!

This just gets more ludicrous. A friend who is bedridden and yet is expected to visit ? A man in bed wearing drawers AND long johns? We’re long johns worn then? And he wears pyjamas! The dialogue is modern.. ‘disrespect me’ the injured man is a complete idiot. Meh

A lady who calls her maid ‘Maid’ ? And the unnamed calls her ‘mistress’ . This doesn’t read well. There are too many moments where it doesn’t feel ‘Regency’ . And the h is far too spoilt to be likeable
