thoughts - speaker is #dramatic asf and it seems he’s got some kind of savior complex lol. i like the horseback riding section bc it demonstrates how most ppl only care about certain misfortunes when it’s right in front of them. also this isn’t an implied idea, the speaker says it himself. it’s interesting bc he seems aware he’s doing too much so i wonder how this will inevitably spiral into smt worse

1.75 - the father is appreciative of speakers kindness and invited him back for another dinner. the dinner is happening now as i stop to take notes, and everything seems to be going well. the father is happy to see the speaker and his daughter happy.

1.5 - she crashes out a bit at this, and the speaker is mortified. he apologizes profusely and flees out of complete embarrassment. haunted by his guilt, he send a bouquet of roses and eventually is invited back. the matter is squashed and the girl apologizes for making a scene. the girl is young and very energetic, and the father talks of how sad it is to see her go through this.

1 - the story is a retelling of another story told to the author by a military man of sorts. he tells the story of how he became somewhat famous for doing a courageous act. the story starts with a little bludder, as he calls it. he is invited to a lavious dinner by some rich guy in his small town after being introduced by a friend. he asks the man’s daughter for a dance, not realizing she is disabled.
