Actually this is my fav chapter. Conny is an incredible character, her backstory is beautiful and her situation is arresting. İ like magical turn this novel has taken in its final quarter

Probably my favorite chapter so far even if it contained the longest break i took from the book. Love pat, couldnt keep up with all the names. The direction it goes in at the end (pact for immortality) is actually really cool and i wish it had that direction in it earlier (which i at least didnt pick up on)

reminds me of another black classic “a different drummer” which used the same storytelling vehicle and was equally effecting to me. i love novels w seemingly unrelated plots that slowly weave together into a single cohesive narrative. beginning the novel with the end is a brutal choice tho 😔 i know or have an idea what’s gonna happen and against my best efforts i somehow came to love these women anyway
