In learning this culture even at a base level, I need to grasp the syncretic culture: adapting to many thoughts, not necessarily choosing one as 'best' and others as 'inferior'. Thats another new to me concept.

The huge disparity in language terms and meanings, for instance, the English word 'god' vs the Japanese word for 'god' are so different that it would feel like two islands with no common bridge across them. The more books I read, the more sobered I am by how culture has affected my understanding of Christ or Christianity.

Mind boggled. Loving this thought of ki, even if I barely grasp its signigicance.

I am understanding slightly more in the first chapter due, oddly enough, to watching asian dramas depicting some of the spiritual realms integration in natural realms.
