... great symbolism, as always. I love the light haloeing Hinata while he's in the air, his friends circling him looking up, like they're lifting him up.

The large lettering of one word emphasizing the sound of Hinata kicking off the ground (and I really like ending on a sound)

I feel like picking this for my first manga series may have ruined me for other mangas.

I finally see why my art teacher was always all "go darker, go darker," but the CONTRAST! This is peak payoff for the crow and cage metaphor.

And the pacing is expertly used. The bird bursting from the cage being on the next page, hidden until you turn it, so much more impactful like this, versus just the next visible panel. It adds more tension.

🤤 Absolutely salivating over this artwork here. Amazing! 👏 The angle from below puts emphasis on his legs and feet and draws or eyes upwards. The foreshortening gives a sense of power and tension.
And I love the use of contrast in these dynamic shots. We make a lot of good use of highlighting here, too. And line for movement.

Just! The shoe, and ugggh! I love it.

Another healthy team oriented mentality. It's not, 'I just set the balls. If the hitters can't hit them that's their fault' (which what early Kageyama believed), but 'my job is to help my hitters by picking the best path.'

I love that Suga seems like this sweet cinnamon roll on the outside, and somehow still scares the sht out of other players.

That's one of my favorite things about this series. The healthy depiction of admiration and rivalries amongst their peers.

Look at the possessive way he yelled "mine!" to claim that dig.

We are very fixated on Sho.

I love the bars in conjunction with the text. "and cut them off," as they talk about boxing Hinata in. It really drives home the visual metaphor.

And then the full page panel of the cage, with the heavy contrast. I live the ongoing bird metaphor, and this is one of the best uses of our so far.

Kenma: Shoyo will prob start to feel the confinement and that will make him fidgety and anxious. He'll get antsy to jump.

And Shoyo really loves to jump.

Kenma: And as a setter, you don't like letting your hitters stew on a mistake too long.

Ooh! I had initially marked page 89 bc I had wondered about that look on Noya's face. He looked irritated, and I knew they were dropping the ball in Sho's path (something similar was deployed against Kageyama), but I hadn't realized the irritation was at Nekoma using him like a pawn to hinder his own teammate.

I really love it when ppl acknowledge Hinata as a threat. Especially bc he looks like an adorable puppy. Like a cutie orange.

He identifies as a problem.

I love seeing him so locked in. He's so dedicated, and it's really inspiring. I can't help but draw parallels to my friend, Ray, and her dedication to music. I wish I had that sort of passion.

It's great seeing how much Hinata has grown. How he's turning even this high stakes game into a learning opportunity. He's come so far.

I really enjoy these high contrast pages, and they're used really well. Deployed perfectly to set apart those high intensity moments.

I'm so glad Fukunaga is finally getting his turn in the spotlight. Love seeing him get his own dynamic, full, two page panel moment.
