Always jarring to read about places you’ve actually walked past

Igual repito

The science did not imply that every adolescent was a criminal, but that those surrounded by a criminal environment might have less ability to control their responses to it.

“What are you in here for?” a cook asked once.
“Lack of vision. Lack of purpose. Poor self-image,” Willard answered.

By 1995, White House adviser John DiIulio Jr. had introduced the now-infamous notion of so-called superpredators—“brutally remorseless” young zombies who would “kill or maim on impulse, without any intelligible motive.”

Given the litany of horrors that dominate news cycles today, it is easy to forget that twenty-five years ago, before the Twin Towers had fallen and mass shootings were commonplace, millions of Americans believed their most urgent security threat was black kids with guns.
