It’s meh so far, mainly because it lacks ambition to be a historical narrative, with the author recusing herself of this responsibility in the introduction. Instead, it’s a hodgepodge of meandering essays that touch on different belle époque societies. There are some interesting tidbits, so I’ll persist for now.
