It's early days but I already get the impression that Kyoko's mother didn't want kids but was forced to because of societal pressures. Because even if you didn't want kids and resent them you can still want to check up on them. You just don't want to raise them.
But that's just my first thought based on a few panels. Plus a lot of people have this problem. Peer pressure sucks no matter where it occurs.
