So what you’re telling me is that Los Angeles, California as we know it is more or less the product of a corruption-fueled real estate boondoggle the gargantuan scope of which almost defies imagination?

I heard about this book from the comments section of a NYT article I was reading about the standstill negotiations of the western states (and Mexico) for a new water agreement. (This is 2026 btw, some 40 years after this book was published.) Anyway, books I pick up in those circumstances usually don’t get finished, but from the beginning I haven’t been able to put this one down. Fascinating, great writing!

Uncomfortably relevant for a 40 year old book on how the water situation in the west will devolve in times of severe drought 😀
