The celebration of desegregation as the true American norm continues, despite the fact that most black children attend either no school or legally segregated schools nine-tenths of the time since the first slaves were brought to colonial Virginia. We celebrate Brown and MLK Jr. in our schools, even when these schools are still almost totally segregated by race and poverty.
