Dear diary,
Today I continued with my miserable mental self mutilation by reading the uninteresting & uninspiring drivel of a theoryboi who offers nothing new, but is "successful" in "academia". As a teacher, I loathe the disintegration of protections for professors & teachers alike. As a reader, I think this man should be thrown out on his arse. Why do boring men worship the drivel of other boring men? Le sigh.

I seriously don't know if I can make it to the end of this book. My insistence on finish this is clearly some sort of twisted masochism, a grotesque self-torture that serves no purpose but to make me miserable.
If you're reading this update, save yourself before it's too late: don't read ANYTHING by Eugene Thacker. He's an example of why academic sucks ass.

I recently redownloaded Habitica, and joined a "read the beast" challenge to make me get a few huge books off my shelf. The goal is to finish a book that's over 500 in a month. This one isn't (only 400 pages). But this sure is a brutal best. God I have come to hate Thacker. I find the quality of his VERY thought lacking

"But for me, the definition that best captures pessimism is given by the joke 'I see the glass half full, but of poison.'"
I realize people come to philosophical pessimism in two ways: philanthropy (in the literal sense) or misanthropy. My tension is that everyday is existentially painful and I live in despair yet at the same time, despite knowing that nothing ever truly gets better, I feel compelled to act.

"The most devastating thing about suffering is that it is relative. There is always someone who hurts more, someone who hurts less."
I have no patience for public performances of grief in this country. We didn't give a flying fuck about the million+ Americans who died during the pandemic. I've got nothing to give.
