I love referring to invented Llogrian lands as "the geography of dreams."

"For three and a half centuries the History of the Kings of Britain was accepted as authoritative, not only in England but on the Continent as well." What a nightmare that must have been for the genealogists.

My biggest complaint about Loomis is his propensity for offhanded, citationless references. The conteurs, these professional Breton storytellers he mentions? Where do I learn about their purported popularization of the Matter of Britain, sir? My kingdom for a footnote.

Loomis asserts that Owain's ravens are the bird forms of his goddess-mother Modron and her companions. I'm taking this and running with it, thank you.

We ought to revive the word "mirabilia," which Loomis defines as "wonderful phenomena." Merriam-Webster defines mirabilia as "wonders" or "marvels."

Loomis blithely referring to Historia Regum Britanniae as "the fraudulent chronicle" delights me.
