Status Updates From Stories of the Dreamlands

The Descendant (2/10) - This feels like half a story. Maybe I just didn't quite get it, but I didn't enjoy reading it anyway.

Azathoth (5/10) - Shortest story in the book. I think its pretty strong for how little there is.

What the Moon Brings (4/10) - A very short story with strong description, but not much to bite.

Hypnos (6/10) - A story of two "friends" who get up to some freaky dreaming. Pretty awesome, until of course it isn't.

The Other Gods (5/10) - It's an imaginative story, though nothing incredibly special. Directly references The Cats of Ulthar which is neat.

The Outsider (5/10) - Decent read and a fun concept. Although it somewhat gave away the final reveal with a lead hand when foreshadowing.

The Moon-Bog (6/10) - In the world of Lovecraft one often reads of men unfazed by old curses who, of course, always suffer their consequences.

The Quest of Iranon (7/10) - A tragic tale of a man looking for home. I feel it is a creative allegory for dreamers (in the metaphorical sense not literal).

Ex Oblivione (5/10) - The story itself feels like a shorter (less punchier) version of Celephaïs.

Nyarlathotep (3/10) - Short and formulaic; the Lovecraft classic.

From Beyond (5/10) - A well constructed tale about a fellow who beholds a world hidden within our own.

Celephaïs (7/10) - Our protagonist's plight is very inspired. A tragedy about rejecting one's cruel reality and the desperation to supplant it with another.

The Cats of Ulthar (3/10) - Kind of a nothing burger. Gets points for being about hangry cats.

The Doom that came to Sarnath (4/10) - 90% of this story is explaining just how breathtaking and prosperous Sarnath was. The remaining 10% is dedicated to its swift and foretold destruction. Unfortunately, the latter isn't made anymore interesting by the former.

The White Ship (5/10) - Neat story, doesnt really have the strongest punch. Bolstered by its very imaginative description of the dreamlands.

Beyond the Wall of Sleep (6/10) - Lovecraft has written many stories where the narrator makes some ephemeral contact with a member of a greater unknown intelligence, bound to humans by some imperceptible means. This is one of those stories; themed to fit within the realm of the Dreamlands.

Polaris (7/10) - A little bit contrived in its beginning, but sets the tone pretty well. Really strong concept and fosters a terrible feeling of desperation.
