I don't think this is the first time in my life when I read Dr. Manhattan's backstory and wondered whether the title Watchmen was an intentional pun.
Another missed opportunity: they never went into much detail about the possibility of the Soviets developing their own Dr. Manhattan, like how things went with nuclear weapons. Moloch brought up the idea in the movie tie-in documentary: I liked that.
