Esta vez el misterio es mucho mas complicado. Y eso unido con su madre de visita, ha resultado ser muy divertido de leer.

Noah Valentine’s Thanksgiving dinner conversations are far from the norm. It’s dessert time~
“Noah, two questions,” Louis said. “Do you think Rod was murdered? And would you like pie?”

Noah Valentine's mother visits him for the first time in years.
“I don’t know why everyone always says traffic is so bad in L.A. This is really not bad at all.”
“Mom, it’s a holiday. Everyone is at home or out of town.”
“Oh, yes, I suppose that’s true. I’m starting to get a headache.”
“Hangover,” I corrected.
“Noah, dear, there’s no reason to be quite so accurate.”

“I got worried.”
“But we didn’t think there was anything to worry about.”
“I know. I just…no matter what I do I can’t stop thinking about you.”

OMG <3<3

“Why?! Why couldn’t he just die like he was supposed to? None of this would have happened if he had just died.”


This Showdown was excellent!!! OMG what a great book. Clearly the best in the series so far.

“You killed Rod because he didn’t die,”

Noah sure has some of the best lines in this book. :-)

THAT is the killer?! Gosh, I didn't see that coming at all....

“How was Sister Act?”
“We haven’t had time to watch it,” my mother replied. “We’ve been busy solving—”
“Sightseeing,” I interjected.
“Oh, that’s right, sightseeing,” my mother repeated.
“Did you make it to Universal Studios?”
“No.”
“Disneyland?”
“No—”
Knowing this could go on forever I said, “We went to The Griffith Observatory.”

And that was why I’d never told Javier why I wouldn’t go out with him. I never wanted to hear that pity in his voice. I didn’t want to be that poor guy. I glanced up at my mother, but I couldn’t read her face. She slipped back into the kitchen.

TELL HIM!! Jesus Christ! Just tell him.

This feels like Lois Lane and Superman all over again.

“Thank you for coming by. I appreciate it.”
“I’m on my way over to Tim’s anyway.” That felt weird. He’d wanted to talk to me, but he had a boyfriend so what was there to say?


LOL, this is like a beautiful soap opera.

“I don’t regret your father,” my mother said. “And I wouldn’t change a thing. Maybe you need to find a man like your father. Someone just a bit dull.”
That made me smile a little. “I’ll keep that in mind.”

“I think your father and I went to see that on a date. They were all such beautiful, young people,” she said. I knew she meant James Dean, Sal Mineo and Natalie Wood. “And they’re all gone now.”
I almost made a flip remark about dying young and leaving an attractive corpse, but I think all three had been pretty mangled by death.

“He didn’t say what he wanted, did he?”
“No. He just asked if you were coming in and I said I didn’t think so, then he rented The Great Mouse Detective and left.”


Now that's cute :-))

This is definitely the best book in the series so far. As much as the series' set-up reminded me of Adrien English in the beginning, Javier's 'evolution' is taking the story in a very different direction. Now it feels like something I cannot foresee and I love that about a story.

Also, Noah's mom is just amazing!!

“I don’t—there’s nothing going on. That’s his boyfriend he’s with.”
“Oh, that’s not going to last.”
“Mom, what do you know about it?”
“I wasn’t born yesterday. See, in every couple there’s a pretty one. Tim thinks he’s the pretty one but he’s not. As soon as he figures that out, it’s over.”

LOL, his mom knows things :-)

I was remembering a scene from The Apartment, one of our older videos that rented a lot. Perhaps not the best source of medical advice, but still—

“What is Rod’s apartment like?” Louis asked.
“Expensive. The rent is probably two hundred more than ours and he has a lot of pricey furniture.”
“He liked leather,” my mother said.
“Furniture,” I added to clarify.

“Excellent choice,” the waiter said. To make me pay for my faux pas he took everyone else’s order first.


I just love it when an author is a good observer of people and knows how to create a fleshed out minor side character with a single sentence.

“Isn’t that what you’d tell your mother if you were a drug addict?” Honestly, if I was a drug addict the last thing I’d do would be to tell my mother anything.

You barely tell anyone anything...
