Honestly just waiting for Inspector French to show up and save this story...

If I happen to finish this later today, at least I have book of Irish short stories on the go, that I can finally get back to tomorrow. So far, Cheyne Mystery is functioning more like a fast-paced Thriller than a whodunit. But I like it.

Inspector French, the Scotland Yard detective, doesn't appear until the 58% mark (or possibly later, since Gutenberg books have a long license at the end). The Cheyne of the title is a remarkably gullible man, but I still find the various adventurous shenanigans entertaining while we wait for him to figure out that he needs to involve the police.
