The devil watches over his own. There were apparently 34 assassination attempts on Hitler’s life, many by senior military members. None succeeded.

Interesting. I didn’t realize that the Axis powers were so weakened by 1942-1943. I keep seeing books with titles of How such and such Won WWII, so assumed it was a closer fight and win than this book is indicating. At least, this particular German solider felt things were very dire for Germany then. I’m learning from this alternate perspective of WWII. Definitely an interesting book. Glad I’m reading it.

“Unfortunately, we do not have the right to express our opinion.” Scary. History is repeating itself, slowly. How you boil a frog...

This book is so interesting. Sad, but necessary read, as most WWII books are.

Very interesting seeing WWII from the POV of a German officer stationed in Poland. Learning quite a bit.

“He also noted that during their discussion, Otto had not made the slightest attempt to influence him. Hosenfeld wrote, ‘That’s the reason why speaking with him is so pleasant. If you encounter differences, then one respects the other’s viewpoint, and it stays that way.’”
