Apparently Jane Austen wrote all her books to imagine the happy ending that 'eluded her' all her life - heterosexual marriage. I guess a woman's life really isn't complete without a man. So gross. How does he know if she was happy or not? Keep your judgments to yourself, dude. And I'm not even an Austen fan.

Apparently all quest stories involve being tempted by beautiful women. And their happy endings are signified by heterosexual marriage. So we're only looking at stories written by straight men, because he's made it clear that gay characters don't fit his ideas. He also only looks at really obvious quests, ignoring any quests for something emotional / internal. There's so much more he could be commenting on.

Did he even read Jane Eyre?? She did NOT have a happy ending, marrying her 'prince' Rochester. That was NOT success!!! And AS IF Clark Kent is a Cinderella figure. The man is basically a god! What even. And this dude seems to think you need heterosexual marriage for a happy ending or it doesn't feel resolved. He must have hated 'Frozen'. And WHY is he describing every detail of stories we all know? Skimming that.

The intro claims he'll delve into our 'recent' preoccupation with sex and violence, as a sign of things going wrong. Honey, name me an ancient story that isn't full of sex and violence. Hell, just look at the BIBLE. And he seems to see 'monsters' as only literal beings, like dragons. He fails to see that 'overcoming the monster' can mean overcoming our own shortcomings / fears / trauma / insecurity, etc.
