I don’t care about any of these characters. Gilda is very opaque despite her rhapsodic narrative voice. The setting could be anywhere. Very little to evoke NYC/the west side beyond name dropped streets. Nothing to evoke the 1920s—even an alternate history—except mention of gangs and bootleggers.
