"The Infinity Box" seems to have been based on a real claim of eidetic memory reported in 1970 by researcher Charles Stromeyer, and concerning his wife Elizabeth. Some children are known to hold clear memory of visual images (eidetic memory), an ability that fades and disappears well before adolescence.
This story was written a years after Stromeyer published. Here, it is something quite dramatic.

I completed Zelazny's "He Who Shapes" (1965) and prepare to flip the book over for Wilhelm. I believe it was Le Guin who sent me to Zelazny, but it is precisely the sort of story I detest in SF. Some smart aspects (therapy thru manipulated dreams), but overblown science fiction and a dated world view (both scientifically and socially) perhaps better fitted for Playboy?
There is hope for Wilhelm.
